Here are the notes that were taken at our last meeting as we examined and discussed why we come to FUUCA. When looking at section 3, think about what *you* can do to make some of these improvements happen!
1) Why do you show up at FUUCA? I’m looking for…
- a sense of community dedicated to spiritual exploration
- a space to work towards better values and personal growth
- support with personal spiritual practice in a routine and regular way
- a place to question and challenge in a supportive environment
- opportunities to participate in social justice
- a community with a positive influence on raising children
- exposure to other belief systems and ideas
- educational sermons in line with my values
- a warm and accepting environment
2) What is the church delivering right now?
- a sense of community for those participating in a small group (ie YA group)
- good sermons on a regular basis
- a community of people who share my spiritual values
- uplifting music during worship
- a safe haven
- meaningful rituals during worship, such as lighting of candles
- good support for child-raising – great children’s program
3) How can the church improve?
- Need one-on-one contact incorporated into worship (i.e. shake hands & introduce yourselves)
- More church community-building activities outside of Sunday worship (i.e. banquet)
- Reach out to newcomers and strangers to make them feel welcome
- Incorporate more guidance and demands for action in sermons
- Create a stronger presence in the community”
- More open communication channels to increase exposure between church groups
- “We (YA) need to increase visible participation (i.e. greet, usher, serve on committees, etc)
- “We (YA) need to advertise + promote the group to guests & newcomers
