Four groups provide the leadership for the First UU Church of Austin and also work to maintain its numerous programs and activities:
- the Board of Trustees, elected by the congregation,
- an executive team consisting of the minister and the executive director,
- a small paid staff, and
- members of the congregation, who volunteer to lead and to do most of the work required to maintain the church’s programs and activities.
In 2010 the Board of Trustees launched a process to implement a policy-based governance system to streamline the administrative operations of the church and to focus them on the mission and values articulated and shared by the congregation. This transformation of the life of the church is a work-in-progress in 2011, and it is described in more detail in the Policy-Based Governance section of this web site.
Under this new system, the Trustees will focus their efforts on policies and priorities and allocating resources to further the mission and values of the church. The executive team will oversee and support the staff and volunteers who do the work of the church. This staff, including volunteers, meets quarterly as the All-Church Council, to share information and coordinate between the various program areas.
While this transformation is in progress, this web site will also be under continuous revision to reflect the changes and the progress made in living and achieving the mission, values, and ends toward which we aspire.
