Signing Up to Make a Difference in Our RE Department:
Volunteer energy is part of our cooperative community endeavor. We encourage parents/guardians and all adults to participate actively in our program. When registering your child(ren) with the RE Department, you pledge to donate some of your time to help make First UU a better place for you and the youth.
Below are just some of the volunteer opportunities available you can sign up for on a short or long term basis:
- Join a Sunday RE Class! In order to support our lead teachers in each classroom, parents are encouraged to assist in their child or youth’s class. It’s a wonderful opportunity to become acquainted with our wonderful curriculum and our caring staff.
- Be a substitute Lead Teacher
- Assist with classroom set-up! We recognize that you may want to help out the RE classrooms without helping out in the RE classrooms. We need people to help us set up the classrooms in between services for 10-15 minutes at a time.
- Sign up to help with a special event! The RE Department needs people to help out in coordinating and running special events. We need volunteers to help prep before events, run activities during events, donate items and decorations to our events and help clean up after events.
- Offer assistance at the RE Information table! Be a smiling helpful presence in the Gallery in-between services.
- Volunteer in the RE Office! We need volunteers to help us organize our RE Library, file, bind curriculum, and keep our supplies organized.
- Join the Children and Youth Programming Committee! (see below for more information)

Children and Youth Programming Committee (CYPC)
The CYPC is open to any RE parents/guardians who would like to have input on our annual activities, choices in curriculum, and topics relating to spiritual education. The committee works very closely with the Interim Director of Religious Education and RE Staff to create an educational and spiritual community within our church walls. If you would like to join this committee or attend a meeting, please contact the CYPC Co-Chairs, Vicky Almstrum and Cathy Echols, at .
Remember, there are many more things the RE Department needs help with, and many more of you!
