Join UUs from across Austin to repair and revitalize the homes of senior citizens and disabled homeowners who are living in deep poverty.
Hands On Housing is an all-volunteer housing rehabilitation program sponsored by the Interfaith Action of Central Texas. We make up a sizeable portion of the 2,000 volunteers who repair rundown houses for homeowners who are otherwise financially unable to do so. The UU Team is assigned two houses per year – one in the fall and one in the spring.
The bulk of the repairs are done on a Saturday. Acquiring materials and setting up typically happens the week preceding the work day. Clean up is Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Watch for the date in the announcements – typically in March and October. Sign up in the gallery between services during one of the Sundays before the event. No experience is necessary although it is certainly welcome. Join other UUs from around the Austin area for a weekend of fellowship and good work!
