At First UU of Austin we gather in community to nourish souls, transform lives, and do justice.
Adult Faith Development offers spiritual, intellectual and physical activities that provide a pathway for Unitarian Universalists to continue learning and growing as individuals and as congregants.
Adult Faith Development (AFD) Mission Statement:
The AFD committee contributes to the mission of First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin by: transmitting information and providing opportunities for personal connections that enhance our souls, providing opportunities for personal learning that can be used to transform lives, and by providing support and collaborative opportunities to explore issues in need of our attention and to take action in an effort to do justice.
Adult Faith Development offers you the opportunity to be something other than a Sunday morning Unitarian Universalist. In our religion, no one tells you what you must believe or how you must practice your faith. Rather, we guide you along your path toward determining that for yourself. Our fourth principle calls that the “free and responsible search for truth and meaning.”
To help you in your search, First UU Austin offers a wide variety of educational experiences. The experiences give you the opportunity to discuss and process ideas with others who understand and honor your quest. They provide information from a number of viewpoints. Program offerings encourage your self-expression in many different ways, and in the process, they give you the opportunity to develop strong relationships with other members of our congregation.
We encourage anyone 18 years and up to participate. If you are unsure about what a particular class has to offer, contact the instructor or the Lifespan Faith Development office. If you want something different than current offerings, consider teaching a class yourself or talk to the Lifespan Faith Development staff about what kind of class you want.
Adult faith development experiences facilitate our bonding as a religious community, which is built by our willingness to share with one another.
