This Social Action Committee group  provides volunteer opportunities for church members to connect with immigrants in service and/or to advocate for them publicly at City Hall, the County Courthouse, the Capitol and with Federally elected politicians.

We meet once a month, alternating between a daytime meeting one month and an evening meeting the next month to discuss and connect about what’s happening with the variety of volunteer opportunities made available to individuals and parents with children at: 1. Casa Marianella, 2.  Immigrant actions and parties with Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition, Grassroots Leadership & Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera, 3. Advocating for immigrants at the public square,  4. Visiting immigrants, who are seeking political asylum and locked up in for-profit prisons, and  5. Joining new volunteer opportunities as the need arises (maybe iACT, etc). We’ll also provide a weekly, casual conversational Spanish speaking table in Howson Hall between the two worship services for beginning and advanced levels of Spanish conversation.
