{"id":341,"date":"2010-10-23T11:12:59","date_gmt":"2010-10-23T17:12:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austinuuav.org\/grover78756\/wp\/"},"modified":"2023-05-14T10:13:46","modified_gmt":"2023-05-14T16:13:46","slug":"resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/austinuu.org\/wp2013\/social-action\/resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Action Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our social action work is informed by our church\u2019s mission statement: \u201cTogether we nourish souls, transform lives and do justice to build the beloved community.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We further our UU Principles and protect human rights for all.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our efforts are organized into six pillars.\u00a0 Within each pillar, a leader and core team set the agenda and determine actions for that area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The six pillars, their current focus and contacts are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Reproductive Justice<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage interested members of the church in community organizing and action to achieve reproductive justice for Texans.\u00a0 We will build partnerships with community groups committed to fight for the human right to reproductive freedom.\u00a0 We will also work to support reproductive and abortion access.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elizabeth Gray &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"mailto:reprojustice@austinuu.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reprojustice@austinuu.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Racial Justice<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increase our knowledge and awareness of our own white privilege and systemic white supremacy. Our goal is to have an impact on racism.\u00a0 Activities will include a book study and participation in related events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ginny Fredricks &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"mailto:racial.justice@austinuu.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">racial.justice@austinuu.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Environmental Justice<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explore and create ways to raise the consciousness of our Congregants, our community about\u00a0 Climate Justice, identify and implement ways to help our sacred Earth survive and thrive. How can we not do everything we can for the poorest, those most disproportionately affected and most vulnerable to climate?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Richard and Beki Halpin &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"mailto:green@austinuu.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">green@austinuu.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><b>LGBTQ+ Rights<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engage others in the fight against unjust and inhumane legislation geared to erase Trans people and drag performers from the public landscape.\u00a0 We will partner with allied organizations, including PFLAG Austin, the Texas Freedom Network, and TXUUJM.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leo Collas &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"mailto:LGBTQ.justice@austinuu.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LGBTQ.justice@austinuu.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Democracy<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We live out the fifth principle of exercising the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process in society at large.
