Meg tells one of the oldest human religious stories, a story from almost 4000 years ago, a story about resurrection often called Inanna’s Descent into the Underworld. We are descending these days, deeper and deeper, and we do not know what the world will look like when we come back out again.

Chalice Lighting

We light this chalice so that its flame may signify the spiritual strands of light that bind our hearts and souls with one another. Even while we must be physically apart, we bask in its warmth together.

Call to Worship

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

– e e cummings

Affirming Our Mission

Together we nourish souls, transform lives, and do justice to build the Beloved Community.

Meditation Reading

If you live in the dark a long time and the sun comes out, you do not cross into it whistling. There’s an initial uprush of relief at first, then-for me, anyway- a profound dislocation. My old assumptions about how the world works are buried, yet my new ones aren’t yet operational. There’s been a death of sorts, but without a few days in hell, no resurrection is possible.

– Mary Karr from Lit

Music

SILENCE MY SOUL

Silence my soul, these trees are prayers.
I asked the tree, “Tell me about God”;
then it blossomed.

– Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941)

Most sermons during the past 20 years are available online through this website.
