All our food, all our water, and all the materials we use come from this Earth. The Earth doesn\u2019t need us: we\u2019re the ones who need it. In fact, we can\u2019t survive without it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s why, given our near-total dependence on its resources, I feel every day should be an opportunity to\u00a0<strong>celebrate and be good stewards of the only home we&#8217;ve ever known.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I often hear from people discouraged about the slow pace of climate action. \u201cWe\u2019ve tried so hard to tackle climate change and nothing changed,\u201d they say. \u201cWhy even bother anymore?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While it may feel subtle or almost imperceptible at times,\u00a0<strong>a lot has changed over the last decade<\/strong>. Just 10 years ago, 0.7% of cars sold around the world were electric vehicles. Today, 20% are. In 2015, experts were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/katharinehayhoe.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fa37a090438ee00d891b2a776&amp;id=e7f8176385&amp;e=e1bfa3683d\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/katharinehayhoe.us14.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3Dfa37a090438ee00d891b2a776%26id%3De7f8176385%26e%3De1bfa3683d&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1713970457641000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2MbnIMnM3FY3NDkWCdDpMG\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>speculating<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0that solar might become cheaper than natural gas one day. That future is already here today. Onshore wind and solar are cheaper to build than new fossil fuel plants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before the Paris Agreement, the world was forecast to warm by up to 5 degrees C (9F).
