MAKE A DIFFERENCE &amp; HAVE FUN<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>As we look at transitioning Green Sanctuary Leadership we must examine what we have been working on and how to go forward.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0 \u00a0 Burning fossil fuels produce CO2 and other gases that trap the heat over us like a green house.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/news\/press-releases\/particulate-pollution-from-coal-associated-with-double-the-risk-of-mortality-than-pm2-5-from-other-sources\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Harvard\/UT study<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Here are our primary working projects: Stop Killing our Climate\/all life:<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>1. Replace Austin Energy\u2019s new fossil fuel burning gas plant proposal with the\u00a0<u>The\u00a0Community Plan<\/u>\u00a0created by energy savvy volunteer Austin Community Members and voted unanimous approval by the \u00a0city Electric Utility Commission.<\/div>\n<div>Our role: We are part of a city wide team that is promoting\u00a0<u>The Community Plan<\/u>\u00a0to our community and City Council.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>2. Close, cleanup and replace the coal burning Fayettee Power Plant with battery storage and clean renewable energy generation.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Our role: We are part of a long standing community team that continues to keep this issue in the City Council and community group&#8217;s focus. \u00a0See more about <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/news\/austin-must-try-again-to-shut-down-its-coal-burning-plant\/#:~:text=In%202014%2C%20the%20Austin%20City,with%20no%20end%20in%20sight.\"><u>closing down Austin Coal Plant<\/u><\/a>.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>3. <u>Climate Actions:<\/u><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>A. Increase Climate awareness and promote practical actions: Continue to host\/promote Bob &amp; Victoria\u2019s\u00a0<strong>WHAT YOU CAN DO\u00a0<\/strong>monthly Climate Crises\/ Solutions Mtgs and follow up actions.\u00a0<\/div>\n<br \/>\n<div>B.\u00a0 Encourage and support our church participation in preparing for the National UUA Climate Revival-August\/September. Church Members\/staff are attending UUA free trainings on getting ready to rollout the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uuclimatejustice.org\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Climate Revival activities<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>C.\u00a0 Support Bob Hendrick&#8217;s continued Leadership and organizing around the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) share availability of those financial resources with our congregants and community to lower their carbon footprint\/electric bill.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>4.\u00a0 Watch dog the attempts to overcome (appeal) the court decision to not allow high level <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/texas-nuclear-waste-storage-permit-004845461.html\">nuclear waste be shipped by train and dumped<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in West Texas near the Ogallala Aquifer.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>More good climate news from:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:talkingclimatenewsletter@outlook.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">talkingclimatenewsletter<wbr \/>@outlook.com<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The climate and biodiversity crises are bigger than any one of us. I challenge you to bring people along with you on this journey.<\/div>\n<br \/>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stay Curious<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 if a headline seems too good or too bad to be true, look further.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Counter the Narrative\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 be willing to wade into the difficult conversations because, as Katharine says so frequently, talking about these crises is one of the most important things you can do.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ask Hard Questions<\/strong>\u00a0of your community leaders and the businesses that you support \u2013 how are they showing up for climate and for nature and for people?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nWe have years, not decades, to solve these crises; but I\u2019m confident that,\u00a0<strong>together, we can find a way.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>We will keep you posted as New Leadership for Green Sanctuary Ministry emerges.
