We whisper these things into flash paper and burn them together, scattering the ashes to the wind.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"4\" width=\"300\" \/>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Reading<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Burning the Old Year<br \/>\n<i>Naomi Shihab Nye<\/i><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Letters swallow themselves in seconds.<br \/>\nNotes friends tied to the doorknob,<br \/>\ntransparent scarlet paper,<br \/>\nsizzle like moth wings,<br \/>\nmarry the air.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">So much of any year is flammable,<br \/>\nlists of vegetables, partial poems.<br \/>\nOrange swirling flame of days,<br \/>\nso little is a stone.<br \/>\nWhere there was something and suddenly isn&#8217;t,<br \/>\nan absence shouts, celebrates, leaves a space.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">I begin again with the smallest numbers.<br \/>\nQuick dance, shuffle of losses and leaves,<br \/>\nonly the things I didn&#8217;t do<br \/>\ncrackle after the blazing dies.<\/p>\n<hr align=\"center\" noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"4\" width=\"300\" \/>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Text of this sermon is not available.
