Meetings twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays
10:30 am.-12 noon at the First UU Church of Austin, Room 13

Women, high-school-age and older, may join us at any time.

The Women’s Spirituality Group is practicing exercises with guidance from: The Toltec Path of Transformation, Embracing the Four Elements of Change by Heather Ash Amara.  The book encourages us to embrace changes in our lives and create the changes that we want to see in ourselves and our world. Women are welcome to come join us without having read the book.

In addition to our twice-monthly circle, we celebrate the pagan calendar, celebrating summer and winter solstices and spring and winter equinoxes.

December 19, 10:30-12:30 or 1:30 in Room 13

Winter Solstice Celebration:

We are inviting past members of Women’s Spirituality Group to join us this year for a reunion celebration. If you know women who have been members of our group, please invite them to come. As usual, we are an open group for any women to join us.  We’ll have a Solstice Pageant, sing Solstice Carols, and have potluck snacks afterward.

As a Unitarian Universalist (UU) group, we are noncreedal and welcome women of diverse spiritual perspectives. We meet in circle to create sacred space as we focus on the themes of women’s spirituality and create our own earth-based rituals. Our structure is based on shared leadership and concensus decision making. We emphasize listening to each other and supporting each other.

Women’s Spirituality Group Philosophy and Purpose

We are a circle of wonderful women committed to coming together for discussion and ritual centering on women’s spirituality. As a feminist group, we strive to be egalitarian, non-hierarchical, and accepting of diversity. As a spiritual group, we value regular attendance, believing that our spiritual bonds are thus strengthened.

  • We connect with each other as we explore our inner power.
  • We listen to each other as we tell our personal stories.
  • We define and create our values.
  • Through our rituals, we create a sacred space in which we honor ourselves as women.
  • We read, study, and discuss works by women writers to connect with women throughout time and learn from their wisdom.

We also celebrate life-passage events, creating rituals for birthdays, a Maiden Ritual for young women, a Queen of Myself Ritual for midlife empowerment, and a Croning ritual for the elders of the group. We also walk the labyrinth together. Of course, all activities are optional.

Below, we’re holding a house warming ceremony for a member.

 What is Women’s Spirituality?

Women’s spirituality draws from feminist theology, paganism/Wicca, and Goddess- and earth-based spiritual traditions. Values include:

  • Reverence for the Earth and respect for the interdependent web of life
  • Celebration of the seasons and cycles in nature and in our lives
  • Community building based on consensus, shared responsibility, and respect for diversity
  • Honoring women and the sacredness of the female
  • Importance of rituals and the creation of sacred space
  • Spiritual values woven into the fabric of everyday life
  • Vision of world peace, social justice, and environmental harmony

The Women’s Spirituality Group began in 1984. Often the specific theme of the group is based on a book that we’re reading.
