Children's Choir performance

The Children’s Choir (CC) and Youth Choir (YC) offer the children and youth of First UU a high level of musical experience and an opportunity to learn about themselves – their own talents, interests, and self-expression – through music that complements their religious education. It is a place that fosters growth and development of life skills through dedication, community, and teamwork throughout a shared musical journey – all while having fun with friends!

Children’s Choir (for children approximately grades K-3). The Children’s Choir aims to nurture each child’s love for music through creative exploration of songs, different musical instruments and genres, and other activities that engage them to think about music as being part of everyday life. Each week is an opportunity to do something fun, and may include instrument-making, listening sessions and video-viewing sessions, song/hymn writing, composition, chamber ensemble music, singing in simple harmonies, music video production, dance parties, and more!

Youth Choir (for youth in grades 4-8). Youth Choir explores the power of the voice as a tool for self-expression, and takes a more contemporary approach with repertoire, keeping it current, exciting, empowering and relevant for the youth involved. Youth Choir members learn simple harmonies & movements, and enjoy the chance to share their voices with our community!

Note: CC and YC age groups may be adjusted at the director’s discretion. The Children’s Choir director may allow younger children to participate in CC; however, parents of those children may be required to be present during rehearsals.

Creating a safe, joyful & uplifting environment in which to develop the voice and sing in community is at the forefront of our Music Program for Children and Youth at First UU Austin!
