As part of the First UU mission, we “nourish souls,” including our own and those of other members of our community. Caring, and caring for each other, is how we do this, and it is a significant part of the life of the church. We invite you to share your joys and concerns with members of our community, and to take advantage of our caring resources as needed.
Where do I start?
Have you or a loved one or fellow church member recently had an accident, received a serious diagnosis, had a loved one die, lost a job, separated from a long-time partner, been hospitalized, struggled with mental health issues, etc.? Or have you recently welcomed a baby into your home or become engaged or married? These are examples of the joys or concerns you may want to share.
For any joys or concerns you may have, you can talk to or email any of the ministers, or you can contact the First UU Cares team either by email (caring@austinuu.org) or using the QR codes for caring around the church building.
What services are available?
Depending on the situation, the minister or a member of the First UU Cares team may send a card or reach out to discuss your needs and available services. These may include:
- Pastoral care or a listening ear;
- Home or hospital visits;
- Meals on a short-term basis;
- Arrangements for memorial service receptions;
- Referrals to other resources.
How will information be communicated?
With your permission, or with the permission of the congregant involved, joys and concerns may be included in a newsletter or mentioned during a service. Church members that you are connected with as part of groups or other activities may also be notified.
How can I help?
If you are interested in providing services for members of the First UU community, please email First UU Cares to let us know and for more information. Volunteering is based on your availability and interests. Your help is truly appreciated!
